A CONSISTENT INVESTMENT PERFORMANCE

Alex Pic.jpg

For decades, the Maltese property market has been the most consistently performing investment available locally. Between the 70s and 80s many Maltese residents became property owners and with property prices rising consistently year after year, real estate became a most attractive investment proposition.

As Malta became a sought-after jurisdiction for various industries and its local rental market started growing, property sales and prices grew consistently in line with this trend. Malta’s size, resilience and attractiveness has an immediate correlation with the performance of the property market. The 2008 European financial crisis and the recent political jittering toward the end of 2019 are clear evidence of how robust the local property market's performance can be. Whilst marginal price corrections are normal after booming years, those hoping for slashed property prices with a view to bag a bargain may wish to reconsider this strategy and buy at relevant market rates, since 2020 property sales figures are already extremely encouraging and very much in line with some of the best ever recorded.

With the political and economic situation in South Africa being what it is, it is no surprise that many South Africans are actively looking at taking up residence and shifting their investments to the EU. Malta, the Mediterranean's best kept secret, has proven to be a very good alternative with thousands of Saffas having already taken advantage of the island's favourable EU residence and citizenship programmes, as well as its property investment options.
